Job Summary

 

Since the Chamber of Commerce is a member-driven organization, the priority responsibilities of the Executive Director are member recruitment, member retention and member services. In addition,

the Executive Director provides executive leadership to the Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce and carries out the strategic decisions of its Board of Directors (BOD) in order to support the mission of the Chamber of Commerce.

 

Essential Job Duties

 

Membership Recruitment and Retention

·         Identify new and existing businesses that are not members of the Chamber, share the mission of the Chamber and the benefits of Chamber membership, and solicit their membership and participation.

·         Maintain regular contact with Chamber members and prospective members to encourage their engagement and participation in Chamber activities

·         Solicit feedback and suggestions from members and the community to ensure that Chamber organizational priorities are responsive to member needs

•     Achieve and maintain market penetration in excess of the 75th percentile of peer Chamber of

       Commerce organizations for membership growth and retention.

 

Member Relations

•     Ensure Chamber activities are communicated to the membership, local community and beyond

       through all appropriate avenues, including, but not limited to, social media.

•     Represent the Chamber at business and community ribbon cuttings, grand openings, events,

       meetings. Be “the face” of the local business community in the county, region and beyond.

•     Bring issues to the Board Chair and the Board of Directors (BOD) in a timely fashion on behalf of the

       membership of the organization

 

Relationship & Partnership Management

•     Cultivate, maintain and enhance strategic partnerships and relationships with local, regional, state   

       and national partners necessary to advance the interests of the business community.

•     Support local and regional economic development efforts through the Chamber’s member and

       business retention and workforce development initiatives.

•     Plan for, promote, and encourage the involvement of graduates of Leadership Boyle County and

       Youth Leadership Boyle County in Chamber activities, on Chamber committees and local boards, and

       at Chamber special events as a means of “giving back” to the community.

Governance: Board/Committee Relations

·         Assist the BOD in its strategic planning process by soliciting the membership and other key community constituencies for input on the goals of the organization

·         With the BOD and its committees, develop and implement an operational plan to further the Chamber’s mission and strategic goals.

·         Assist the BOD in identifying other community members who might become involved in Chamber

     activities.

·         Support the officers in building strong BOD relationships and provide the leadership necessary to assure full BOD participation

 

Policy Formulation & Articulation

·     Lead the Chamber’s political and advocacy activities. Represent the Chamber as the official

       spokesperson expressing the views of the BOD and as the voice of the business community with a

       goal to enhance the Chamber's mission and image.

·     Have regular conversations and meetings with political and elected officials on the local, regional,

       state and national level. Represent the business community effectively, professionally and in a

       bi-partisan manner at government functions and venues

 

Finance and Administration

•     Identify and develop revenue generating programs and events.

·         Manage the annual budget, membership income and operating expenses.

·         Maintain confidentiality regarding Chamber financial and member information

·         Establish appropriate administrative policies and procedures.

·         Attend Chamber BOD committee meetings and provide staff support to committee efforts.

 

Perform other responsibilities as needed and assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications or Equivalents

Education: Bachelor Degree

Experience: Previous experience as Chamber Executive preferred.  

Ability to communicate and interact effectively with leaders in health care, business,   

       government, industries and community organizations. 

              Graduate of U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Organization Management preferred.

 

Compensation

Total Compensation is negotiable based on qualifications within $36,000 - 42,000 range
